TENNESSEE — A 79-year-old man has died after his vehicle drove off a ferry dock Friday afternoon in Stewart County.
According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report released Saturday, the victim was identified as Wesley Robson.
The Stewart County Fire Rescue first announced the emergency on social media around 1 p.m. Friday, stating that the Cumberland City Ferry was shut down and advising drivers to find alternative routes.
Shortly after, officials confirmed that a vehicle had driven off the ferry into the water.
Authorities said Robson was driving a Ford Edge northbound on Cumberland City Road when he entered the ferry, struck a gate at the back of the vessel, and went into the water.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency assisted with the recovery efforts.
