TENNESSEE — A 31-year-old man died Friday evening after a crash on Williams Mill Road at Oak Hill Drive, city officials said.
Authorities identified the victim as Jesse Malone, who was driving an SUV when it collided with a van driven by Ronald Weaver.
Officials said Weaver had been involved in an earlier crash on Old Knoxville Highway at Pellissippi Parkway, where he sideswiped another vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed.
After that incident, Weaver reportedly swerved onto Williams Mill Road and crashed into Malone’s SUV. Both vehicles were on fire when first responders arrived. Malone was transported to Blount Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Weaver was arrested and faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a crash, two counts of reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, vehicular homicide, and failing to maintain his lane. He was taken to UT Medical Center for evaluation.
