One person dead following vehicle crash in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — A driver died Monday afternoon after their pickup truck struck a fallen tree on S.C. 102, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. near the intersection of Bear Creek Road.

Troopers said a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling north when it hit a tree that was blocking the lane of traffic.

After the initial impact, the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and struck another tree.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from their injuries. The victim has not yet been publicly identified.

The crash remains under investigation.
