SOUTH CAROLINA — A 7-year-old child has died and six others were injured after a multi-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Greenville County, according to authorities.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Augusta Road and Matrix Parkway.
Troopers reported that an SUV attempting to turn left onto Matrix Parkway from Augusta Road was struck by a truck. The impact caused both vehicles to collide with another SUV and a car waiting on Matrix Parkway.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said 7-year-old Caius Blakely of Woodruff, who was sitting in the rear passenger seat of a Jeep involved in the crash, later died at the hospital from his injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
The coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
