SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities are investigating the death of an Anderson County woman who passed away a week after being injured in a car crash.
According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the intersection of McGee Road and North Park Drive. Investigators said one of the passengers, later identified as 83-year-old Susan Wheeler of Anderson, was found unresponsive at the scene.
Wheeler was taken to AnMed Medical Center and later discharged to hospice care, where she died at 3:20 a.m. on Aug. 23.
Officials said the vehicle Wheeler was riding in was rear-ended, leaving her with multiple traumatic injuries. Her death has been ruled accidental.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the crash.
