PENNSYLVANIA — A 21-year-old woman was killed early Wednesday morning after losing control of her vehicle on a rain-slicked Interstate 81 and crashing into a parked tractor-trailer, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on I-81 southbound at mile marker 79.4, between the Grantville and Route 39 exits.
Police said the woman veered off the highway onto the right shoulder and struck the tractor-trailer, which was parked near an exit ramp to a rest area.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The crash shut down I-81 south from exit 80 to exit 77 for several hours. The highway reopened just before 7 a.m., according to PennDOT spokeswoman Fritzi Schreffler.
The incident remains under investigation.
