
PENNSYLVANIA — A 48-year-old woman was killed Saturday night in a wrong-way crash on Route 283 in Lancaster County that involved an EMS vehicle and a Pennsylvania State Police cruiser.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Heather Bare of New Salem Borough, York County, was driving a Mercedes sedan westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 283 shortly before 10:37 p.m. on Feb. 21.
Investigators said the Mercedes first struck an EMS vehicle before continuing in the wrong direction and crashing head-on into a state police cruiser.
The EMS vehicle remained at the scene to provide aid following the crash.
The occupants of the police cruiser had to be extricated from the vehicle and were transported to Lancaster General Hospital. Authorities said they remain in stable condition. It is unclear how many people were inside the cruiser at the time of the collision.
Bare was also extricated from her vehicle and taken to Lancaster General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Officials have not yet released the cause and manner of her death.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Lancaster Station, along with the Troop J Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist Unit and the Troop J Forensics Services Unit.
