PENNSYLVANIA — A man was killed late Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Luzerne County, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Hazleton.

Troopers said the crash happened just before midnight as the driver was traveling westbound in the right lane near mile marker 254.9 in Sugarloaf Township. A spokesman for the Hazleton-based Troop N said the driver, who was identified only as a male, lost control of the vehicle.

Authorities said the vehicle spun counterclockwise across the westbound lanes, left the south side of the interstate, became airborne, and struck a tree in the median.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional information was immediately available.

Emergency crews from the Sugarloaf Fire Company, Nescopeck Fire Department, Sugarloaf EMS, Kisenwether’s Towing, and the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene along with state police.
