PENNSYLVANIA — A fatal crash and vehicle fire caused significant delays Monday morning on the outbound Parkway East near mile marker 73 in North Oakland.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the incident began when a sedan became disabled on the roadway. The driver, an unidentified woman, remained inside the vehicle with its hazard lights activated.
A witness told investigators that a pickup truck traveling east struck the disabled sedan while changing lanes. The impact caused the sedan to catch fire.
The driver of the pickup and other witnesses attempted to rescue the woman, but troopers said the flames were too intense. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck’s driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site.
The crash scene has since been cleared, though authorities warned that residual delays may continue. The investigation remains ongoing.
