One person dead following vehicle crash in Ohio

OHIO — A West Portsmouth woman has died from injuries sustained in a weekend crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

Troopers said Ronda R. Smith, 55, passed away Wednesday at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

She was flown there after the accident, which occurred just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Careys Run Pond Creek Road near U.S. 52.

According to investigators, Smith was driving northwest in an SUV when the vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole.

OSHP said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
