OHIO — One person was killed early Monday morning after a two-vehicle crash on an Interstate 71 exit ramp in north Columbus.
According to Columbus police, the crash occurred around 4:28 a.m. on the Gemini Place exit ramp from I-71 South. Investigators said a BMW SUV swerved off the right side of the ramp onto the gravel shoulder and struck the back of a semi-truck.
The impact caused the SUV to catch fire, and the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:44 a.m.
The exit ramp from I-71 South and the right lane of the interstate in the area were closed while emergency crews responded.
