
OHIO — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Monday evening on Interstate 71 in Medina County.
At around 7:20 p.m. on July 28, a 2020 Nissan Armada was traveling southbound near milepost 208 when it hydroplaned, veered off the right side of the roadway, and struck a commercial tractor trailer parked on the shoulder.
The SUV was driven by a 41-year-old woman from Springfield, Missouri. She sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Akron General Hospital.
The vehicle was carrying her husband and their four children. Her 42-year-old husband, also from Springfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old male passenger was seriously injured and taken to Akron General Hospital. Three minor children were transported to Akron Children’s Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the commercial vehicle, a 38-year-old woman from Newport, Virginia, was not injured.
Southbound lanes of I-71 were closed for about an hour as emergency personnel responded to the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
