OHIO — A three-vehicle crash in Darke County Monday morning claimed the life of a 27-year-old Dayton woman, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 8:12 a.m. in the 1200 block of State Route 49 near Graw Road.
Authorities say a Hyundai Genesis, driven by Da’Sika Verdell, 27, was traveling south on SR 49 when it attempted to pass two semi-trucks.
During the maneuver, the Hyundai collided head-on with a northbound Ford F-150.
A Chevrolet Traverse, which was behind the Ford, also struck the Hyundai following the initial impact.
Verdell and her passenger, a 42-year-old man from Dayton, had to be extricated from the Hyundai using mechanical tools.
They, along with the driver of the Ford, were transported to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. The two occupants of the Chevrolet declined medical treatment at the scene.
Verdell later died from her injuries at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
