OHIO — A 24-year-old man from Kentucky died early Monday after his car veered off the road and crashed into Lake Erie on Kelleys Island, a popular holiday destination in northern Ohio.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred in the early morning hours of Memorial Day along West Lakeshore Drive.
The driver, identified as Wesley S. Finley of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, was operating a 2000 Ford Mustang when the vehicle went off the left side of the road.
The Mustang struck several metal fenceposts, a deck, and rocks before overturning and coming to rest.
Finley, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died from injuries sustained in the crash. No other individuals were involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
Authorities say it is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
