OHIO — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old Akron woman early Saturday morning.
The crash occurred around 1:26 a.m. on Massillon Road, just north of Clayben Drive.
According to OSHP, a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta was heading south when it veered off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and a utility pole, then overturned before coming to rest upright in the roadway.
The passenger, identified as Isabelle Grubaugh, 18, of Akron, died from her injuries.
The driver was transported to Summa Health-Akron City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators believe drugs and alcohol may have played a role in the crash. Neither the driver nor Grubaugh was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Springfield Township Police and Fire Department, First Energy, Miller’s Towing, and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
