One person dead following vehicle crash in Ohio

OHIO — A 35-year-old Amherst man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 60 Thursday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Authorities say Daniel Palko Jr. was driving a 2016 Ford Focus south on Route 60, south of Auster Road, when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway around 7:47 p.m.

The car struck a cement culvert, became airborne, and collided with several trees. Palko was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Investigators believe speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Wakeman Fire Department, Citizens Ambulance Service, the Huron County Coroner, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and White’s Automotive Services.
