OHIO — One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash Saturday night in Whiteford Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash was reported at 9:56 p.m. on northbound U.S. 23, south of Sterns Road.
Investigators said 18-year-old Calvin A. Campbell was driving a gray 2023 Ford F-150 northbound in the left lane, with a 17-year-old female passenger in the front seat. Authorities said the truck was struck head-on by a blue 2017 Ford Escape driven by Rhonda L. Bartnik, who was traveling southbound in the northbound left lane.
After the collision, both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lanes of U.S. 23. All three occupants were wearing seatbelts, officials said.
Campbell and his passenger were transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Ohio and were listed in serious condition.
Bartnik was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said careless driving appears to have been a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
