NORTH CAROLINA — A 66-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning on Old US 70 near Sanders Lane, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the scene around midnight on July 28.
The driver, identified as John Lincoln Hawkins of Cove City, was traveling east when his vehicle ran off the road, struck a ditch embankment, and overturned.
Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators also noted that speed was a contributing factor in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
