One person dead following vehicle crash in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — A 24-year-old man is dead and another man is recovering from minor injuries following a head-on crash Saturday morning, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The crash happened just after 6:45 a.m. in the 300 block of Barnes Road near Kendall Drive.

Police say Nicholas Shepard, 24, was driving a 1996 Honda Civic westbound when he failed to maintain his lane and crossed the center double yellow line.

The Civic collided head-on with a 2005 Toyota Sienna being driven eastbound by a 39-year-old man. Shepard was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver was taken to a local medical center with minor injuries.

Police said Shepard’s next of kin have been notified. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Winston-Salem Police Department’s non-emergency line at 336-773-7700.
