NORTH CAROLINA — One person was killed and another seriously injured in an overnight crash in Winston-Salem, according to police.
Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department responded around 12:25 a.m. Sunday to the 3500 block of High Point Road. When they arrived, they found a 2008 Hyundai with significant rollover damage that had crashed into a tree.
Police said two people were found outside the vehicle. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Humberto Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said his next of kin has been notified.
A 35-year-old female passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators said the vehicle lost control, left the roadway, struck a parked unoccupied vehicle, and then rolled over after hitting a tree. Both occupants were ejected during the crash. The force of the impact pushed the parked vehicle into a nearby home.
Police believe excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department’s non-emergency number at 336-773-7700.
