NORTH CAROLINA — A 37-year-old man died early Friday morning after his vehicle ran off the road and overturned in Pitt County, authorities said.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash on NC 102 near Madison Hardee Road at approximately 4:44 a.m.
Patrick Alonzo Bell of Washington was traveling east when his vehicle veered off the road, struck a ditch culvert, overturned, and came to rest off the roadway.
Bell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said speed, lane control, and the lack of restraint were contributing factors in the crash.
