One person dead following vehicle crash in Michigan

MICHIGAN — A 15-year-old girl from Coopersville died Tuesday night after being ejected from a vehicle in a crash along State Road, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. when the driver, an 18-year-old man from Nunica, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, investigators reported.

Deputies said the girl in the cargo area was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. Life-saving measures were attempted, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and a 17-year-old Coopersville girl in the front seat were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. A 15-year-old boy from Nunica in the cargo area, who also was not wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
