MICHIGAN — A 61-year-old man from Flushing Township is dead following a head-on collision Monday afternoon in Shiawassee County.
Deputies with the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene around 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of M-21, east of Vernon Road. Investigators say the man was driving eastbound when his vehicle veered into the westbound lane and struck another vehicle head-on.
The impact pushed the man’s vehicle back into the eastbound lane, where it caught fire. First responders extricated him from the burning vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Authorities have not yet determined why the man crossed into the opposite lane.
The crash remains under investigation.
