One person dead following vehicle crash in Kentucky

KENTUCKY — A 61-year-old man is dead after a crash involving a Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer Wednesday night.

According to LMPD, the crash happened around 9 p.m. on Fern Valley Road in the Newburg area.

Police said an officer was responding to a call to assist EMS on Interstate 65 when another vehicle turned in front of the officer’s car.

The officer collided with the vehicle.

The driver, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner as Charles Briscoe, was killed in the crash.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Their condition was not immediately available.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
