KENTUCKY — A Tennessee man was killed Monday evening on the Cumberland Parkway, authorities said.
Kentucky State Police Post 15 reported that troopers responded around 6:08 p.m. Sept. 8 near mile marker 45. Investigation revealed that 56-year-old Charles Smith Jr., of Huntingdon, Tennessee, had parked his semi-truck on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes and exited the vehicle.
While walking in the roadway, Smith was struck by a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country driven by 47-year-old Andy Lohden of Smiths Grove. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adair County Coroner. Lohden was not injured and declined medical treatment.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Fire and EMS, and the Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Lucas Justice.
