IOWA — One person was killed and two others were injured Wednesday afternoon in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 35, according to police.

Authorities said a driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-35 near EP True Parkway when the crash involving three vehicles occurred.

Police confirmed that one driver died at the scene. Two other drivers suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The identities of those involved have not yet been released.

The crash prompted the closure of southbound I-35 as officers investigated the scene. Traffic was diverted to Interstate 80 west, with drivers rerouted using Jordan Creek Parkway and Mills Civic Parkway before returning to I-35.

Transportation officials reported delays of approximately 16 minutes in the southbound lanes and about three minutes northbound as of 4:08 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation.
