INDIANA — One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 69 in Grant County, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the crash in the northbound lanes of I-69 near mile marker 272 at about 6:33 a.m. after dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a flipped vehicle, several people ejected and a person trapped inside a car.
Investigators determined the crash involved two trucks: a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1996 Chevrolet truck.
Three people were injured in the crash. One of them, Joseph Kidwell of Marion, died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by emergency medical responders.
The two other injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities said Kidwell and his wife had pulled over on the side of the road after their truck broke down and were waiting for assistance from family when the Silverado passed a semi-truck, veered off the road while switching lanes and struck their vehicle.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Indiana State Police, the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office, several local fire departments and emergency medical services.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at 765-662-9836.
