One person dead following vehicle crash in Indiana

INDIANA — Police in Tippecanoe County are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday morning east of Lafayette.

According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported around 2 a.m. Feb. 9 near the intersection of State Road 26 East and County Road 900 East, approximately eight miles east of downtown Lafayette.

Sheriff’s deputies responding to the scene located the driver deceased in a nearby field. Investigators believe the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. No other vehicles were reported to be involved.

The identity of the driver has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

In a statement, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office said the primary cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities added that the possible involvement of drugs and/or alcohol has not been ruled out at this time.

No additional details were released as the investigation continues.
