INDIANA — A four-vehicle crash on State Road 9 at Meridian Street left one person dead and several others injured Saturday, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responding to the scene found multiple people injured, with one person trapped in a vehicle. The injured were taken to Marion Health, and a 57-year-old woman was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne, where she later died. Her identity is pending notification of her family by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
Preliminary investigations indicate that three southbound vehicles were traveling on State Road 9 when one slowed to turn left onto Meridian Street and was rear-ended. The vehicle spun into the northbound lane, colliding with another car and triggering additional collisions with southbound traffic.
The vehicles involved were a 2012 Chrysler van, a 2014 Chevrolet car, a 2006 Buick car, and a 2010 Ford SUV. Indiana State Police are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
