ILLINOIS — One person was killed and several others injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in rural Putnam County.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred around 4:35 p.m. near the intersection of IL 18 and 1150 East in Magnolia Township.
According to authorities, a vehicle driven by a man from Cresthill was traveling east on IL 18 when he attempted to pass several vehicles and struck a westbound car driven by a woman from Downers Grove.
Both drivers were taken to OSF in Peoria by LifeFlight. A passenger in the Cresthill vehicle was transported by ambulance to OSF in Streator. Another passenger, 42-year-old Elvis Escobar, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is under investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Magnolia and Granville Fire Departments, PCEMS, Lostant and Varna EMS, the Illinois Department of Transportation, LifeFlight, and the Putnam County death investigator.
