GEORGIA — One person is dead and another is critically injured after a head-on collision Tuesday evening in Statesboro, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on Highway 301 South in front of Post 45. Investigators said a Chevrolet Malibutraveling northbound crossed three lanes of traffic “for unknown reasons” and struck a Mazda CX-5 heading southbound.
A passenger in the Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was airlifted to a hospital in serious but stable condition.
The GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT-F) is investigating the cause of the crash.
