One person dead following vehicle crash in Georgia

GEORGIA — A 29-year-old Marietta man died early Saturday morning in a single-car crash on Blackwell Road, according to Cobb County police.

The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. west of the intersection with Autumn Ridge Parkway.

Police say Cody Chitwood was driving a 2023 Subaru WRX eastbound when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the left side of the road.

The car entered an embankment, broke through a wooden fence, and came to a stop between two trees. Chitwood was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
