FLORIDA — A man driving a Tesla was killed Monday night after stopping in the middle of Interstate 4 in Lake Mary, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-4, just past the Lake Mary Boulevard exit.
Investigators said a 43-year-old man from Deltona was stopped in his Tesla Model 3 when two semi-trucks approached from behind in the same lane. One truck swerved to avoid the Tesla, but the second was unable to stop in time and struck the car from behind.
The impact caused the semi-truck to hit a guardrail and overturn, while the Tesla was pushed off the highway and collided with the back of the first semi-truck.
The Tesla driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of both semi-trucks were not injured.
FHP said it is still investigating why the Tesla was stopped on the interstate.
