
FLORIDA — A 23-year-old man was killed early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators said the crash occurred around 2:35 a.m. on State Road 26 near State Road 21 in Melrose.
According to FHP, the man was driving a white sedan eastbound on SR-26 when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway. The car struck a road sign and multiple trees before overturning onto its roof and coming to rest on the shoulder.
Officials said the crash caused the vehicle to catch fire, trapping the driver inside.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The crash also led to a temporary closure of the roadway for several hours while crews responded and cleared the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
