FLORIDA — A 25-year-old man from Winter Park was killed and two other drivers were involved in a three-vehicle crash at a busy Orange County intersection Sunday night, according to investigators.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 426 (Aloma Avenue) and State Road 551 (Palmetto Avenue).
Troopers reported that a 1999 Honda CR-V, driven by the 25-year-old man, was traveling eastbound on State Road 426 in the inside lane as it approached the intersection. At the same time, a 2024 Toyota RAV4 driven by a 24-year-old woman from Orlando and a 2018 Toyota Corolla driven by a 21-year-old man were stopped westbound on State Road 426 in the inside left-turn lane, with the Corolla stopped behind the RAV4.
Investigators said the RAV4 and Corolla had a green left-turn arrow and were attempting to turn left onto State Road 551 when the Honda CR-V failed to stop for a red traffic signal and entered the intersection. The front left of the Honda struck the front left of the RAV4, causing the RAV4 to be redirected eastbound. Troopers said the rear of the RAV4 then struck the front of the Toyota Corolla.
The driver of the Honda CR-V was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota RAV4 was also taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota Corolla was not injured and remained at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
