FLORIDA — A driver was killed Monday night after crashing into a construction vehicle on the Howard Frankland Bridge, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 at mile marker 34. A Chevrolet Silverado entered a closed lane within an active construction zone and collided with the rear of a Ford F-550 that was parked in the emergency lane. Authorities said the Ford truck was carrying traffic cones and was equipped with a flashing arrow sign.

Debris from the collision struck a Nissan Titan driven by an 18-year-old man from Largo. Troopers said the driver of the Nissan was not injured.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as a 37-year-old man from Musella, Georgia, died at the scene from his injuries. The driver of the construction truck, a 45-year-old man from Tampa, and two construction workers inside the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The Florida Highway Patrol said southbound lanes of I-275 on the Howard Frankland Bridge are scheduled to be closed Tuesday night as construction work continues. The crash remains under investigation.
