FLORIDA — A driver was killed early Monday morning after a pickup truck crashed and caught fire on State Road 173 in Escambia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 6:24 a.m. near Millview Road. A Chevrolet Colorado was traveling southbound on State Road 173 when it failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and left the roadway, entering the shoulder.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, the truck struck a tree line and became engulfed in flames. Authorities said the driver was unable to exit the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the crash.
Due to the severity of the injuries, investigators said the driver could not be immediately identified, and next of kin had not been notified as of Monday morning.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
