FLORIDA — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a series of crashes on Interstate 95 early Saturday that left one man dead and a woman critically injured.
Troopers said the incidents occurred shortly after midnight on I-95 northbound, just south of State Road 46. According to FHP, the first crash happened when the driver of a Chevrolet Impala changed lanes into the outside lane and collided with a Volkswagen ID.4.
After the crash, the Impala’s driver, a 33-year-old man from Port Saint Lucie, exited his vehicle and was struck by two approaching vehicles attempting to avoid him and his disabled car. He died at the scene.
A woman who stopped to help the driver was also struck by another vehicle. She was airlifted to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital in critical condition.
FHP said the investigation is ongoing.
