
SOUTH CAROLINA — A 22-year-old man is dead following a crash early Sunday morning after fleeing an attempted traffic stop in Greenville County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on North Main Street near Kenwood Lane.
According to investigators, officers with the Greenville County Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving at the intersection of North Main Street and East Stone Avenue.
Officials said when the officer activated blue lights, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Authorities noted a pursuit was not initiated due to the driver’s reckless behavior.
Troopers said the vehicle later ran off the roadway and struck a brick wall.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 22-year-old David Hernandez.
The investigation remains ongoing.
