MARYLAND — The Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal crash in Columbia after police attempted to make a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

According to the Howard County Police Department, an officer in an unmarked departmental vehicle attempted to stop a 2010 Honda Accord on Route 32 around 2 a.m. Police said the officer observed the vehicle traveling above the speed limit prior to attempting the stop.

Authorities said the driver fled and immediately crashed on the eastbound ramp toward Broken Land Parkway. The Office of the Attorney General said the driver of the Honda was a juvenile and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the officer involved was equipped with a body-worn camera. The Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is reviewing the circumstances leading up to the crash.
