OHIO — The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Steubenville is investigating a fatal utility terrain vehicle (UTV) crash that occurred on State Route 342 in Freeport Township, Harrison County.
According to officials, the crash happened on February 28 at approximately 10:09 p.m. when the UTV left the roadway, overcorrected, and overturned, ejecting two passengers before coming to a stop in a nearby field.
Breanna L. Arthurs, 28, of Wellsburg, WV, was ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing a safety belt. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Another passenger, Olivia K. Jones, 18, of Freeport, OH, was also ejected and transported by Freeport EMS to Aultman Hospital for treatment. She was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
The driver, Trish A. Jones, 47, of Freeport, OH, was not ejected and received treatment at the scene.
She was later arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and faces additional pending charges.
Emergency responders included the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Freeport EMS, Tippecanoe EMS, and the Moorefield Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
