One person dead following two-vehicle crash in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — A woman died Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash on I-40 West in Catawba County, officials said.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. near the rest stop between the Oxford Street and Oxford School Road exits during heavy rain.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported the collision involved a Subaru Ascent and a Honda HR-V. Troopers said the Subaru ran into the Honda.

The driver of the Honda, 22-year-old Gabriella Elise Cruz, died in the crash. The 41-year-old Subaru driver and three passengers were treated for minor injuries.
