ALABAMA — A man died after becoming trapped in a trench collapse at a construction site in Huntsville on Monday afternoon, according to officials with Huntsville Emergency Medical Services Inc.
HEMSI spokesperson Don Webster said the incident was reported at 2:47 p.m. at a construction site near the intersection of Old Jim Williams Road and Martin Road. Emergency crews responded after a trench at the site collapsed, trapping a worker.
Webster said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Huntsville Fire and Rescue crews were still working to extricate the victim from the collapsed trench late Monday afternoon.
The incident remains under investigation. The Huntsville Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation. Additional details, including the identity of the victim, were not immediately released.
