
VIRGINIA — One person was killed in a shooting early Saturday morning in Lynchburg, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
Police said officers responded to reports of shots fired around 2:27 a.m. in the 700 block of Jackson Street. After arriving in the area, officers worked to determine a more precise location of the incident. With assistance from the victim’s family, authorities located a person who had been shot.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later. Police said the victim’s identity is being withheld out of respect for the family.
Investigators said the case is in its early stages, but preliminary information indicates the shooting was targeted and there is no known threat to the general public.
