SOUTH CAROLINA — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting Sunday after a standoff at a home on Joann Branch Road in Lake View, according to the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the residence after receiving a call for assistance.
Upon arrival, officials said the subject pointed a firearm at deputies, threatened to shoot them, and then barricaded himself inside the home.
An arrest warrant was later obtained, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was called in to assist. SLED deployed its SWAT Team to the scene.
Authorities said the standoff continued for several hours, with officers attempting to negotiate with the suspect. During the incident, the suspect allegedly fired multiple rounds at law enforcement officers and was subsequently fatally shot.
At the request of Dillon County and SLED, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) has taken over the investigation.
In a statement, FCSO said: “Florence County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a thorough criminal investigation into this officer involved shooting. FCSO Investigators will interview all potential witnesses, collect all relevant evidence and forensically test such evidence as appropriate. When the investigation is completed, a case file will be submitted to prosecutors.”
The investigation remains ongoing. No further details have been released at this time.
