SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities are investigating the death of a 7-month-old child who was fatally shot early Sunday morning in Spartanburg.
According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, Zymir Demarco Smith was found unresponsive just after 4 a.m. at a residence on Collins Avenue. He was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Spartanburg Police say unknown suspects fired multiple rounds into the home from outside while the infant and his mother were asleep.
Officers followed a trail of blood inside the apartment and discovered the injured child.
