SOUTH CAROLINA — A Gaffney man is dead following a shooting early Sunday morning outside a downtown nightclub, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old Joshua Wood, was brought to Cherokee Medical Center by private vehicle at 1:20 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was later transferred to Spartanburg Medical Center, where he died during surgery at 4:13 a.m.
Authorities say the shooting occurred during an argument between Wood and another man in a parking lot across from an event hall on West Birnie Street, where Peach Festival activities were taking place.
Despite a large police presence in the area for the festival, no officers were called to the scene at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who was at the Event Hall or nearby during the shooting is urged to contact Detective John Neal at (864) 206-3341 or Major Brian Blanton at (864) 206-3334.
