SOUTH CAROLINA — One person was killed in a shooting early Wednesday morning in Spartanburg County, according to authorities.
Deputies with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 12:50 a.m. to a report of a shooting at 235 Graham Chapel Road, near Graham Chapel Wesleyan Church in the Mayo community.
Just after 1 a.m., the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene, where 42-year-old Matthew Edward Carter was found dead. Carter was identified as a resident of Double Branch Road in the Cowpens community.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and no information has been released about possible suspects or the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Deputies stated the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no threat to the community.
