OHIO — A man is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after police responded to a disturbing report of a woman being held against her will and assaulted inside a Maple Heights residence.
According to a press release from the Maple Heights Police Department, officers were called to the area of Maple Heights Boulevard and Knoll Avenue at 8:52 a.m. on Saturday, July 26.
There, a woman told officers she had been bound to a pole in the basement of her home on Hollywood Avenue by her live-in boyfriend, who was armed with a handgun, and assaulted over the course of several hours overnight.
When police arrived at the residence, they attempted to make contact with the man but received no response.
The Southeast Area Law Enforcement SWAT and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) were called in for assistance and also made repeated attempts to communicate with him.
Eventually, SWAT officers entered the home and discovered the man deceased in an upstairs bedroom from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to Marymount Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities did not release her condition.
Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Maple Heights Detective Bureau at (216) 587-9624.
