LOUISIANA — One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting Monday evening in New Iberia, according to the New Iberia Police Department.
Officers were called around 5:30 p.m. to the area of Field Street near French Street, where they found two victims at the scene.
Authorities said one victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
A second victim refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. Investigators added that a third victim arrived at a hospital by private vehicle. The extent of the surviving victims’ injuries has not been disclosed.
Police said a 22-year-old suspect has been taken into custody, though the individual’s name and any charges have not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
